Tallulah Gorge State Park, GA
March 30 April 2, 2010
1310 miles in 3 days (only 205 miles on the Interstate)
I rode from Lakeland, FL to Tallulah Gorge State Park to do some camping. I took US-441 from north Florida all the way to the Gorge. I camped at the park and went for a hike on the morning of April 1. After lunch, I went for a short ride that ended up being 230 miles round trip; and it ended up taking me to Deal's Gap (The Dragon) on the NC/TN border. But the Dragon was closed because of a rock slide. Still, it was a nice ride up there. The next day I rode home to Lakeland.

Dauphin Island Research Lab
April 8 - 11, 2009
~1100 miles in 4 days
I went to Dauphin Island for a professional development workshop related to marine science education. I rode up to AL, spent a couple days there, and then came home.
The workshop I was attending ended at lunch time, so I only planned to ride to Tallahasse and spend the night there. When I got to Tallahassee, I stopped at a couple hotels that had nothing available. Finally, a hotel deskclerk asked if I was just passing through. When I said yes, she told me it was graduation weekend at Florida State University, so rooms were few and far between...and expensive. No problem, I just asked my GPS where I could find the next Super 8, and I ended up spending the night in Lake City.

Trips made on my 2005 Suzuki C90T
Natchez-Trace Parkway
March 24 March 29, 2007
2394 miles in 6 days
I rode from Central Florida to Manchester, TN, where I camped at the Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park. Then, I jumped on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Nashville and headed south. Along the way, I camped at the Meriwether Lewis National Monument and Jeff Busby campgrounds. After completing the 444-mile Trace in Natchez, MS, I headed down US-61 to St. Francisville, LA and the Louisiana State Penitentiary. There, I conducted some research I hope to get published. Then, it was back to Florida.

Blue Ridge Parkway
June 29 July 3, 2006
2210 miles in 5 days
I rode to Robbinsville, NC with two friends and spent a day riding the Dragon, US 129, with 318 turns in 11 miles. We rode that a few times, then toured the surrounding mountain roads. I then went my own way for a few days, taking the Blue Ridge Parkway from its beginning in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the end near Charlottesville, VA. Along the way, I visited Station's Inn Motorcycle Resort, Hollins University, Washington & Lee University, the Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia. On the ride home, I also visited the University of Richmond.
